This week has been another really good week. I have had more experiences with Local anesthetic. I am feeling more confident in doing it and I learn something new everytime. Today I had two patients scheduled, but one cancelle and the other did not show up. Luckily my mockboard patient came in and I cleaned 3 quads. I got her numb

So, I had a really really good week. At the VA my first patient was a class 4 patient and I cleaned their entire mouth. It was extremely difficult because he could not lay in the supine position because of his back. He was basically sitting almost straight up. So I adjusted the way that I cleaned, I was standing up a lot of the time and doing a lot of bad ergonomics. But it went really well. I was able to get his mouth numb and I hadn't done that since last semester so it was kind of crazy, but when I went to do his other side of his mouth it went pretty well. I gained a lot of confidence from that experience. I need to remember on the IA that when I get to my site of deposition to make sure that I stay in the correct position over the premolars.
Today at clinic I saw a class three patient in the morning and got them numb. It was exciting to be able to do that again! In the afternoon I found a mock board patient. My original patient had cancelled and so I called another patient and she qualified! This week was gold and I got really lucky.
A little tip I learned today when I got my patient numb was to check to make sure that my syringe works and is not stuck before I go in to my patients mouth. Also, take the lid part way off so I can just pull the needle out without having to do that with the examiners watching.

Today I did the clinical simulation day. It went really well and I stayed on track time wise.
In the morning I saw a 1b and a 1a. I did not chart in between patients, but waited until after. In the afternoon I saw 3 1a's. One of them was almost 3 in a couple of weeks and she would not let me into her mouth once I got her into the chair! The last 1a that I saw I cleaned and did a sealant. Overall I felt pretty good about the day. The only thing was that I forgot to get signatures here and there, but in a real office I guess you wouldn't need those anyway. It was a good experience and I think it will really help me throughout the rest of my semester when I am trying to schedule things.

So, as usual it is always a little weird coming backing to clinic at first, but once I get going it all comes back. At the VA I saw two patients. The first had gen mod perio. My xrays were a little shaky, I kept cone cutting them so I really focussed on where the xray was. The last pt was half two half three. It was incredible becauase he was paralyzed and he barely had any use of his arms making it difficult for him to brush and impossible to floss. I showed his wife the best way to floss so that she could do it for him
Today at clinic I saw two patients that both ended up being class two's. In the afternoon I experimented with the lubes. I really liked using them and the magnification was excellent when I probed. When I used my hand instruments it became a little more difficult. I am going to practice more on another patient, but I definitely think that I will purchase some.
