Probing!
Today we probed, and I think it went really well. I think it was a little easier to get the hand of than exploring. Partly because we had practiced exploring and were used to it. We practed on dexter first and then on our lab partner. It was the most difficult to get the maxillary molars. I passed off three PE's and did really well. Today was a good day, but just like usual I need to practice

Using the expolorer. Today we used the explorer again. It was much better this time than last time. Before we started we reviewed the PE's and that really helped. I still need to practice my instrument adapting to the tooth. I think the anterior facial is the easist side but the linguals are difficult in that area. I need to practice that area using my indirect vision. The posterior molars are difficult as well. I am going to take home some instruments and practice on my husband!

Explorer
Today was frustrating. We started using the explorer on the typodonts and that was okay. It kind of feels awkward at first. There are so many things to think about. How to fulcrum, position you fingers on the instrument, and roll the instrument properly. Through all of this you try not to make your patient bleed. After the typodont we tried it on a real person. That is when I got frustrated because I started to forget everything at the end. I guess like everything else it will take time and practice to get it right! It was interesting today though. Practice, Practice, Practice!

Intraoral exam
Today we learned how to do an intral oral exam. We went through and located all of the places and names of things intraorally. It was good to see it first and then practice it. The first time through took a little while locating things, but the second time was a lot easier! I need to maintain good posture while I do it. It is hard while we are concentrating on new things to maintain posture, but it is important so I am trying to do my best. It was very interesting to see some places in my mouth like the different ducts. I need to keep practicing!

Today in clinic we had a rep from sheer vision come and introduce the lubes. I like them, but I don't know if I'll buy one yet. Then we went over doing extra oral cancer screenings. It went really well, but I need to go over the differnt muscles and bones in the skull so I can name them as I do the oral screening. Today I passed off my positioning PE, but I got nervous. I really think I know everything, but since it didn't seem like we had a lot of time. We ended up having enough time, but I need to slow down and take a deep breath and really concentrate!

Vitals
Today we practiced taking blood pressure, testing the pulse rate and respirations. I read the book ahead so that made it easier to remember when we were actually practicing on a person. We took 4 different vitals on different people. Then we practiced positioning. We recored their information on their treatment record and also took their blood pressure. Then we practicing positioning. It was a lot better today. The more we practice and the more I study at home the better and more natural it gets. Today was a good day. I think I will be ready to pass of my PE on positioning next week. I need to revuiew more still though!

Health Histories
Today in clinic we learned how to look up certain medications and find all of the important information that we will reference. We created our own charts and our lab partner filled out our Treatment record. There is a lot of information that we have to write down. It was very helpful to do it. We also reviewed over positioning. I really need to work on that and I can do that by looking at the Neild book. I get a little frustrated remembering what I do in each position, but I will work on it. I passed off 3 PE's today. I felt really good about all of them and think I did a good job! Everything is starting to come together a little better!
