9-25-07 This morning my patient did not show up. But, I found a little boy whose mom was being seen by my friend. He was such a good patient, class 1a. In the afternoon I had a class two come back and she was very sensitive. We did not give her local anesthetic, but gave her oraqix. That really didn't work and I should have just gotten her numb. So it turned out that I missed so many spots when I got a scale check. Which was very frustrating. It was the same problem that I had last week, I did not get into the col area far enough. My goal is to explor better with my instrument, go deep into the pocket, and keep my instruments sharp enough.

9-18-07
This morning I finished a class three patient with very tenacious calculus. It was a good experience and I was able to go deep subgingivally. I had to ultra sonic and then hand scale then go back through and utlra sonic and hand scale again. Some deposits would not come off! It was tricky, but very cool to see the difference in her mouth since I cleaned last week. In the afternoon I saw a good patient who was half class 5 and half class 2. I missed a lot of spots when the instructor checked and I realized that I had not gone subgingivally enough interproximally in the col area. So I will make it a goal to go deeper in to the col and really adapt the toe of the instrument to the tooth at all times.

9-11-07 This morning my patient was a class three and had extremely tenacious calculus. It was so hard to get off and I felt like I did not do anything. It was a great experience though because if I can get that off I can probably get just about anything off! I need to work on not being as afraid to go subgingivally. O did do a great job on following my probe depths to try to know how far down I need to clean. In the afternoon I saw two patients. The first was a 1b and I finished cleaning her. The next was a class two and I did an OD on her. I took digital xrays and they turned out great, it just took me a few attempts to get them right!
9/4/07 Today was the first day seeing patients. My first patient ended up being a class three! That was great because I want to find all of my more difficult patients at first so I am not crazy at the end of the semester. I only got throught the OD because I took an FMX. It was quite the experience to remember how to do that. I messed up a little and had to retake some films, but it was a good learning experience. She will be a great patient to clean. In the afternoon my patient cancelled, but I found someone else and got her started and cleaned two quads. It was a good day!
